Water Sanitation and Hygiene

Large sections of the vulnerable population in Somalia do not have access to sustainable sources of water for both livestock and human consumption while an estimated half of the population lack access to adequate sanitary facility. The main causes of this situation are linked to poor planning for development of water sources, inadequate capacity to establish sanitation facilities, low latrine coverage in the rural areas and the collapse of the water infrastructure among others.

Lack of sanitation facilities is contributing to the poor hygiene situation in the country. To address the challenges enumerated above STF has focused its effort in the facilitation of access to safe drinking water to households and their livestock and hygiene promotion training and provision of sanitation facilities in order to reduce water borne and sanitation related disease prevalence through hygiene promotion training and provision of sanitation facilities.
