Somali Trust Foundation (STF) is a local non-governmental organization working with communities in Somalia. The organization was formed by young local professionals with a vast experience in humanitarian work. STF was registered in Somalia as a Community Based Organization (CBO) on 7th April 2013 and later with NGO Coordination Board as a fully-fledged NGO in 2016. The organization has offices in Mogadishu,Kismayu and Baidoa.
STF's original mandate was to solely undertake women empowerment programmes and advocate for gender equality. Over the years, the mandate has expanded its scope to Research and Development (R&D), Food Security and Livelihood (FSL), Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Peacebuilding and Governance, Gender responsive protection and Humanitarian Assistance and Development.
STF embraces the Community Driven Development (CDD) model that operates on the principles of transparency, participation, local empowerment, demand-responsiveness, greater downward accountability, and enhanced local capacity. The main purpose of community development is to organize the people to bring about sustainable development. This is to enable the people to collectively identify, prioritize and plan to solve their problems that ultimately leads to sustainable development. STF works for and through the community members to achieve overall development that meets the immediate and long term needs of community. The CDD places the community and its needs at the center of its planning and implementation.
